Boeheim's Army, the basketball team with a unique history, has once again assembled a talented roster for The Basketball Tournament (TBT). This year's team features a mix of familiar faces and new additions, each bringing their own unique skills and stories to the court. Among the new players, one name stands out: Ty Nichols, a point guard with a memorable performance against Boeheim's Army last summer. Nichols, who played for We Are D3, torched the team with 36 points in a stunning upset. His ability to score from beyond the arc and drive to the basket made him a force to be reckoned with. Nichols' return to Boeheim's Army is a fascinating development, as he and General Manager Shaun Belbey had a brief but meaningful exchange over the winter. Belbey, impressed by Nichols' performance, reached out to him, and the point guard was eager to join the team this summer. Nichols' professional experience spans multiple countries, including Kosovo, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland, where he averaged 16.4 points, 1.8 steals, 3.6 assists, and 27.7 minutes per game for Peristeri last season. His addition to the team brings a sense of hunger and determination, as Belbey appreciates players who actively seek to be a part of the team. Another notable addition is Tyson Walker, a point guard with a strong background at Michigan State. Walker, a New York native, averaged 18.4 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per year during his final season with the Spartans. He was a second-team All-Big Ten performer and has since played in Australia's NBL, averaging 14.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. Walker's friendship with Belbey, who coached him in the G League, further strengthens the team's cohesion. The team also welcomes JaCorey Williams, a center/power forward with a gritty reputation. Williams, who played for Middle Tennessee and averaged 17.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in 2017, has since played professionally in various leagues, including the G League, Israel, Dubai, Italy, Montenegro, France, and Greece. His ability to score and make plays on offense, coupled with his defensive contributions, makes him a valuable asset. Additionally, Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, a center with a strong shot-blocking presence, joins the team. Akobundu-Ehiogu, who played for Memphis and averaged 2.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game, has an impressive athletic background. His ability to protect the rim and his lob threat make him a formidable addition to the team. The team's roster also includes several players with Syracuse ties, such as Buddy Boeheim, Jimmy Boeheim, Wes Johnson, Eric Devendorf, and Elijah Hughes. The TBT schedule is set, with Boeheim's Army facing Hall In on July 21st, followed by a potential rematch on July 23rd. The team's journey towards a potential championship and the $2 million prize is filled with excitement and anticipation, as they strive to make a lasting impact in the tournament.
